Montessori Information
Montessori is an educational method developed by Dr. Maria Montessori that supports each child in his/her specific learning style at their own pace. It meets each child where they are developmentally, socially, spiritually and academically, allowing them to progress in a way that is both natural and meaningful, aiding them to fully reach their true potential.
In a Montessori environment, children are surrounded by respect, independence, and the freedom to direct their own learning journey. This approach fosters a deep love of learning and intrinsic motivation. Montessori students tend to be curious, focused, and engaged—qualities that carry over into lifelong academic and personal success. Through hands-on materials, real-world applications, and an emphasis on problem-solving, children in Montessori classrooms build strong academic foundations while also developing emotional intelligence, responsibility, and confidence. The result is a well-rounded learner prepared for both school and life.
There are many components to ‘Following the Montessori child’, beginning with keen observation from the teacher. They spend time standing back and observing the classroom, watching what materials are popular, which child is drawn to what, who seems either puzzled, concentrated, or otherwise engaged. Behaviors, social interactions, and emotions are all considered when a teacher works to prepare the classroom. Each child has innate qualities that lead them to learning; our role is to connect each child with the appropriate materials at the right time, in a way that supports their individual learning journey.

The Montessori classroom is unlike anything you would see in a traditional childcare center; it’s filled with educational materials that link learning outcomes to children’s needs and interests at specific stages of their development. It is a meaningfully structured learning space where everything has a purpose and a place.
Beautifully Prepared Environment
The Montessori method is distinguished by its strong emphasis on fostering independence in children. Central to this philosophy is the belief that children are inherently capable and possess a natural curiosity and drive to learn. In the Montessori context, independence is not simply about doing tasks alone—it is about nurturing the skills, confidence, and intrinsic motivation needed to make choices, solve problems, and engage meaningfully in learning without constant adult intervention.
Fostering Independence

Nature and natural materials are central to Montessori education, rooted in the principle of caring for the environment. Montessori classrooms are integrated with nature, fostering a strong connection to the natural world. This helps children develop a sense of responsibility, curiosity, and respect for the environment.
Integrating Nature
Montessori schools are founded on core values like respect for the child, freedom within limits, the prepared environment, and individualized learning. These values aim to nurture independence, intrinsic motivation, and holistic development in children. We believe human beings construct themselves by interacting with their social, intellectual, and physical environments. Learners develop through structure and freedom while nurtured in an atmosphere of beauty and respect within our intentionally prepared learning environments.
